St. Louis may start acquiring land for proposed NFL riverfront stadium.
There are indications that the City of St. Louis and the Convention Authority may start acquiring land for the proposed NFL stadium. While St. Louis races against Los Angeles to build a new stadium for the Rams football team, one of St. Louis’ biggest obstacles is that it does not have control of the site where the new stadium is proposed to be built. Currently, it is unlikely that the legal mechanism is in place to use condemnation, or eminent domain, to force owners to sell their property but past St. Louis history indicates that the City will use some sort of blighting law to help move the proposed stadium forward. This is compared to Los Angeles, where the Rams team owners already have control of the land where they propose to build a stadium.
