Property Owner resistance forces ATXI/AMEREN to set new route for Mark Twain Transmission Project

The Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois is taking another pass at the Mark Twain Transmission Project, announcing Monday morning a new route for the proposed 345,000-volt transmission line that would largely use existing right-of-way of the Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative and Ameren Missouri.

The announcement was made during a press conference in Palmyra, Mo., and comes after years of conflict between ATXI, landowners and Missouri’s regulatory agency, the Public Service Commission.

It also comes in the wake of a legal setback to the project, when the Missouri Court of Appeals invalidated an order of approval for the project from the PSC. The announcement could also render moot the numerous lawsuits ATXI has filed against the various county commissions that withheld consent for the company to construct the original line under the original plan.
