ATXI (Ameren) meets strong opposition in Shelby County
ATXI, a subsidiary of Ameren, met with strong opposition at a public hearing to consider its request for permission from Shelby County to build its proposed Mark Twain Transmission Line. The controversial project has faced stiff local resistance since it was proposed in 2015. Under Missouri Law, a utility must obtain assent from counties before utilizing public right of way. The Missouri PSC approved the project on the condition that ATXI obtain assents from the five counties through the route was approved. The proposed project calls for a 345,000-volt (345kv) transmission line across northeast Missouri from Palmyra to Kirksville and then north to Iowa.
